The Bayeux Tapestry, Animated

One of the most famous tapestries in the world is the amazing Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Norman Invasion of England (1066 and all that). Now PotionGraphics have posted an amazing animation of this needlework masterpiece at YouTube, complete with sound effects, music, and subtitles in English. There’s also an abbreviated version, but I recommend watching the full 4 minute video posted here. It’s so detailed, in some spots quite amusing, and you’ll want to keep returning to it to see what you missed.

  1. thank you, thank you, thank you

My parents went to Normandy several years ago; my Mom bought me a cushion cover with a bit of the tapestry printed on it. I was just moving the cushion this morning and thought about how intriguing it is. Then I went check my feed reader and found your post. wonderful !

    Thank you for this.
Everyone who reads your blog will become quasi-expert on the Battle of Hastings – instead of just half-remembering the date as learned in school. We are now armed with the less-than-trivial – e.g. whose brother was killed at Hastings?

What a great commentary on the tapestry!
(I thought I was imagining the seasickness, although not the belching.)
