Pony Tail Hat

Here’s a cute, cozy, quick, and easy hat to knit for the pony tail wearer in your life. Materials:

  • Bulky weight boucle yarn, 125 yards
  • Size 13 circular or set of double pointed needles
  • Small length of thin elastic cord
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge: 7 stitches = 4″ in pattern, slightly stretched

With circular needles or dpns, loosely cast on 40 stitches. Join, being careful not to twist.

Work in rounds of k1, p1 knitting for approximately 12 inches.

Bind off loosely in rib.

Thread elastic cord through sts about 3 inches below 1 end. Pull cord in tightly to gather and tie securely.

Trim cord ends and allow top of hat to roll naturally to the outside.

If you’d like to knit a matching scarf:

Cast on 15 stitches on size 13 straight needles

Row 1: K1, *P1, K1, repeat from * across to end. Turn.

Row 2: P1, *K1, P1, repeat from* across to end. Turn.

Repeat rows 1 & 2 to desired length. Cast off in rib.

This looks like a great pattern, however, I would like to use a worsted weight yarn to make this hat. Can anyone help with directions for a pony tail hat for worsted weight (probably using a #8 circular needle). Thanks in advance.
