A note: There’s a search field to the right of all the books on Google Books, so to find the patterns, just search for them.
From Google Books:
The illustrated girl’s own treasury ca. 1861 – crochet starting page 83, knitting page 88; in general an excellent resource on 19th-century needlework, since it’s meant as a primer for little girls
This isn’t strictly knitting/crochet/thread arts, but The Lady’s Guide to Perfect Gentility: In manners, dress, and conversation (1856) is a pretty fantastic one for reenactors, whom I know there are a lot of here. Even if you’re not a reenactor, a lot of what’s there is quaintly amusing. Though there is a chapter on the “elegant arts” – fancy needlework, knitting, crochet, netting. Chapter VI, for the curious, in which there are patterns.
The Work-woman’s Guide (1840) – Fantastic resource. FANTASTIC.
The Hand-book of Needlework, by Miss A. Lambert (1842)
The Ladies’ Knitting and Netting book, by Watts (1840)
Peterson’s Magazine (1876) – Knitting and crochet patterns
Young Englishwoman by Beeton Publishing (1875) – Needlework patterns
The What-Not; or Ladies’ handy-book (1859) – Needlework patterns (lots of crochet)
Knitting, crochet and netting by Eléonore Riego de la Branchardière (1846) – Exactly what the title says.
The Young Ladies’ Journal Complete Guide to the Work-table: Containing selections in Berlin Work, Crochet, Drawn-Thread Work, Embroidery, Knitting, Knotting or Macramé, Lace, Netting, Poonah Painting, & Tatting (1885) – The title is very complete. Has illustrations and color plates.
Mee’s Companion to the Work-table, by Cornelia Mee (1844) – I know this is available on Project Gutenberg, but Google Books has three or four different editions of this book. As far as I can tell, they’re all pretty much identical, but if you’re a completist, have a blast comparing them.
My Knitting Book, by Florence Lambert (1843)
The Comprehensive Knitting Book by Esther Copley (1849)
Dorcas Magazine (1883) – Has knitting
The Illuminated Ladies’ Book of Useful and Practical Needlework, by Mrs. Henry Owen (1844)
